Performance CurvesPerformance Curves – Reading and Understanding them!Pump performance curves are normally generated by testing at the factory with pure water at a temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. This is also done using a pipe size that corresponds with the outlet and inlet size of the pump in question. Most performance curves are done to ISO9906 standards (used by most pump manufacturers), which means that the allowable tolerances up to 7% either way on the head and up to 9% either way in flow. For this reason a bit of flexibility is needed when sizing a pump and it is advisable not to specify a pump that is on the verge of the performance curve on either side, as these tolerance might see it cavitating.
